Contemporary armchair is latest in clean culture

A quirkily-themed contemporary armchair is the latest design development in the ongoing hunt for greener living solutions.

Backed by environmental campaigners Can Couture, interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has come up with the Can Can Chair - which uses nothing but recycled tins that the designer and his family collected from their home.

The contemporary armchair idea will now be displayed at London's City Hall before embarking on a European tour as the can-crazy group attempt to show ways that green might come to be the new black in the world of home interiors.

"I really enjoy working with new material so the idea of using recycled drinks cans to produce an elegant, yet flamboyant chair was a huge challenge for me," said Llewelyn-Bowen.

"Recycling is hugely important in this day and age and drinks cans are one of the most environmentally friendly types of packaging as each one is 100 per cent recyclable.

"They can also be recycled infinitely so technically I could produce an entirely new piece of furniture for next season by melting down this chair," he added.
