Hand-picked artwork helps Galway hotel land top award

Combining a diversity of styles with hand-picked artwork, mirrors and lighting has seen g Hotel, in Galway, be awarded with FX Magazine's much-vaunted Hotel Interior Design Award for 2006.

The hotel's design was the result of a high-profile collaboration between Douglas Wallace Architects and Designers and world-renowned milliner Phillip Treacy, who helped bring his own, unique style to bear on the 103-room luxury location.

Visitors to the hotel come immediately transported to another world, with hand-picked artwork and daring colours speaking of both old-Hollywood glamour and something of the romance of the surrounding Galway coastline.

On awarding their prize, the judges commented that the "hotel is full of surprises and delights everywhere you look," and was "full of innovation and quirky humour".

Mr Treacy, meanwhile, commented: "Working in conjunction with Irish architects and designers Douglas Wallace on the g Hotel I have brought together an eclectic mix of styles - from baroque to contemporary, and many places in between - to create an overall effect that seeks to surprise as well as to delight. But it is the impression of glamour that I most want to convey."ADNFCR-1042-ID-18177311-ADNFCR
